I love an event. I love creative people. I love a beautiful venue. So, luckily I had the chance to collaborate with It’s A House and Tribe Coffee to host drinks, a dinner and a cupping session with a few of Cape Town’s loveliest people.
GET YOUR MIND OUT OF THE GUTTER, DAMMIT!
Coffee cupping or tasting, is the process of discerning the aroma and flavour of speciality coffees, and consists of four steps (simply put):
- Looking at the whole, dry beans to observe their colour.
- Grinding the dry beans and giving them another sniff.
- Immersing the beans in hot water and yes, giving it a sniff.
- And finally, you sip it – very, very loudly so lots of air goes in your mouth.
I will admit, that is the very simple explanation of the process. And although I may not have enlightened you unto the finer details, at least I did tell you what cupping was. And that may have made you giggle.
However, if you want more information you should get hold of Jake Easton from Tribe Coffee who has made the House Blend for It’s A House. They interviewed him earlier this month, about the ins and outs of what he gets up to and his thoughts on their space.
