The festival is driven by the Nguni proverb “Belele nje, Abathulanga” (“They may be asleep but they are not quiet”) and its Afrikaans equivalent, “Hulle slaap dalk, maar hulle is nie stil nie,” encouraging attendees to contemplate the interconnected themes of land, loss, love, grief, and healing.
