Master Sommelier Denis Garret, fondly known as the mad Frenchman on a motorbike, is quite the character and his passion for wine is clear as he excitedly conveys his knowledge. Denis is highly trained and is a member of Association des Sommeliers Parislle-de-France, the oldest sommelier association in the world as well as a member of Bureau National Interproffesionnel du Cognac, an interprofessional association for the preservation and promotion of Cognac.

The event promises to be a gourmand’s delight as guests at this exclusive event will have the opportunity to choose a set of fine wines presented by each of the sommeliers to accompany their five courses of crafted fine dining cuisine.

Executive Chef Jean’s mystery dishes will all be designed around the five flavour profiles of salt, sweet, sour, bitter and umami. Chef Jean’s training in classical French and English cooking has given him the confidence to become an innovator in the kitchen. Jean trained at Zevenwacht Chef School, where he was awarded both the Patissier Award in 2007 and Best Overall Student Award in his second year in 2008. He has worked at top South African eateries like Rust en Vrede, Terroir, Cassia, Equus Dine at Cavalli, and Kileen House Hotel in Ireland.

Newly opened elegant and modern Benguela on Main is the product of an extensive development programme resulting in a venue with state-of-the-art kitchens, wheelchair friendly access and a lift to the second floor as well as full AC and fresh air systems and fireplaces throughout the 380m² site, with ample parking.
