Brookdale’s Kiara Scott Farmer shortlisted as finalist in the 2024 Diner’s Club Winemaker of the Year competition

Kiara Scott Farmer of Brookdale Estate has been selected as one of six finalists in the 2024 Diners Club Winemaker of the Year competition, to be announced on 23 November 2024.

Now in its 44th year, the much-anticipated award will be presented for the wine the judging panel considers to be the best in the category of Chenin Blanc.

Scott Farmer will be competing with her entry of the newly released 2022 vintage of Brookdale Estate’s Old Vine Chenin Blanc.

  • The wine was crafted from old vine Chenin Blanc (1985) grown on decomposed shale and granite, with minimal winemaking employed to allow this stony terroir to shine through. Matured for eleven months in French oak barrels, the wine was then aged on the lees for eleven months in Austrian oak foudres. Once bottled, the wine was left to mature for a further four months before release.

Tasting notes describe the 2022 vintage as ‘subtly keyed; restrained aromatics of pear skin, honeycomb and golden citrus. Just a hint of pastry cream and toast. The palate is deep, dense and concentrated. Fleshy and generous, tempered by a stony acidity sewn through the layers and layers of flavour. Yellow apples, kumquat and peaches sing. The chalky texture is the background music, giving ballast to all those curves. The savoury finish calls in the wax of the nose, the echo of the radiant fruit.’
