Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 by Benguela Cove triumphs at Winemag Next Generation Awards

Benguela Cove Wine Estate has emerged as a shining star at the 2024 Winemag Next Generation Awards.

Benguela Cove’s Cabernet Sauvignon stood out for its distinctive aromas of blackcurrant, dried herbs, and fynbos, with complex notes of salty liquorice and leather.

Their 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon has earned a prestigious spot in the top 10, scoring an impressive 95 points.

  • This recognition celebrates the talent of young winemaker Michelle Waldeck, who has masterfully captured the essence of the cool climate terroir of the Walker Bay region.

The Winemag Next Generation Awards, sponsored by FedEx Express, aims to highlight South Africa’s emerging winemaking talents under 35. This year, 62 wines from 37 entrants were blind-tasted by a panel led by Winemag.co.za editor Christian Eedes, along with Spencer Fondaumiere and Malu Lambert. Amongst this competitive field.
