Ladies Day at Kenilworth Racecourse is one of the fastest growing race meetings in the country and will take place at Cape Town’s premier racing venue on August 15 this year.
Kenilworth Racing’s Jenna Adams said “the theme for this year’s event is the glitz and elegance of Las Vegas, one of the bright light cities of the world. The theme is sure to add some razzmatazz to the lawns, grandstand and rooms, so dress up and step out for a fun, formal day at the races”.
Ladies within the racing industry will be attracted by the occasion, but there are some activities on course which will provide particular draw card for newcomers to the Sport Of Kings. Land Rover, one of the sponsors of the day, will have vehicles on course to drive ladies to the start in order to experience the thrill of watching the horses loading and jumping from the starting stalls at the beginning of a race.
Betting World is another sponsor and have donated betting vouchers, which will provide racegoers with plenty of extra excitement when cheering their fancies on.
Author, magazine columnist, radio and TV presenter and celebrity chef Jenny Morris will be the Master of Ceremonies, the “Giggling Gourmet”, is one of SA’s most loved food personalities and is extremely excited to be a part of the day.
There will be a lot of on course entertainment, including a fashion show hosted by Desray Designs. Fashion entrepreneur Desiree Jearey started out on Greenmarket Square in 1991 and after ten year tenure as one of Young Designer Emporium’s leading designers, she branched out and now has eight Desray stores around the country. Using a South African design aesthetic, Desray’s clothes are designed to flatter the female body no matter what shape or size and creates ready-to-wear clothes for “real people.”
The annual Ladies Day luncheon will take place in the Peninsula Room where Perdeberg Wines have come to the party and will be offering the ladies who lunch some of their finest cultivars. The day will again be focused on the upliftment of charity and this year’s charity, The Sunflower Fund will benefit from the auction of a promising racehorse. The Fund’s chief objective is to create awareness and to educate potential bone marrow stem cell donors who could save the life of a child or young adult diagnosed with leukaemia or any other life threatening blood disorder. The training fees for the racehorse will again be sponsored by Crawford Racing who continues to support this initiative.
The incredible generosity of partners such as Samara Private Game Reserve, Club Travel, Elite Charter, Dermalogica, Kitchen Aid, AMT’s, Rustica and African Extracts Rooibos will add to the day’s festivities.
