A classic G&T is deliciously simple. Reinventing this drink can be incredibly fun.
Gin is made from a neutral based spirit, which is given its characteristic flavour by adding botanicals during the distillation process. While juniper – genièvre in French, from which gin receives its name – is always the most prominent flavour, you’ll find other notes such as fresh fruits, spices, and nuts. As the alcohol itself has a unique flavour profile, a lot of gin-based drinks are super simple because the botanicals do all the work for you.
That said, it’s an easy-going drink. Added too much tonic? Not a problem! Chuck in some more gin. Too much gin? Throw in some tonic. Like it really cold? Ice, ice baby. You can experiment by adding your own mix of fruits, spices, cordials, tonics or spritzers to find a mix that makes you smile.
Using a premium gin like Tanqueray gives you a lot of room to craft it your way as you already have a delicious, but subtle base of juniper, coriander, angelica root and liquorice. Some cheaper gin alternatives leave you trying to find ways to hide the bitterness, rather than having fun in making it your own. Tanqueray’s subtlety means that you can add your own spin either in the glass, or by decanting into smaller bottles, then adding your favourite flavour combos and letting it steep over a few days.
With Tanqueray, you can be more creative and play with flavour profiles of the ingredients that you love. In the end, you hold a drink that’s yours – unique in its own way.
Get out there, have fun and craft it your way!
