De Grendel Wine Estate has some of the best views in Cape Town, which makes it the best place to sit back and enjoy their award-winning wines such as chardonnay, viognier and merlot. But they don’t need all that to win gold, it seems.
The wine estate is delighted to announce that they have won a gold medal for their 2017 vintage shiraz at the annual International Wine and Spirits competition – one of the most prestigious in the world.
Wines are judged blind by expert panels, selected from over 400 fully experienced and qualified industry judges, and gold medal winning wines and spirits are re-tasted by the Wine Judging Committee for final endorsement.
Says Charles Hopkins, Cellar Master at De Grendel: “The Shiraz is already showing signs that it will turn into a remarkable wine in a few years. Based on the results from our previous Shiraz vintages, I’m positive that this is only the start of many more awards to follow for this wine.” Well, they’ve already scooped 92 points in the inaugural Shiraz Report by the respected local online publication, Winemag.co.za.
Pair De Grendel Shiraz 2017 with pork neck steaks with cranberry reduction, traditional glazed gammon and game and venison cuts. You can age your shiraz a further 8 months if you cellar it correctly.
The wine is priced at R190 per bottle from De Grendel’s online store and at their tasting room and is available at all major retail outlets nationwide.
