The concept of a supper club isn’t a new one. Although still relatively small in South Africa, they’re huge overseas. Dine With Us South Africa is the new kid on the block, and they have brought an interesting edge to the market. They want you to get offline, meet and eat with the people you may chat already “know” online as well as interesting strangers.
Dine With Us dinners are themed on interests, relationship statuses, occupations, lifestyles and more. So when deciding what to attend, you can pick the kind of food you like, as well as what sort of people you’re interested in meeting.
Couples or singletons; writers, young professionals, ladies in PR, or entrepreneurs. Parents with toddlers, football fans or photographers. And so many more. It gives you the opportunity to meet, socialise and even network with likeminded people in an informal atmosphere. Soccer fans will meet when their specific team is playing, moms and their young’uns can attend meals with other kiddies in a child-friendly restaurant, etc etc. The combinations of interests are literally limitless.
The networking possibilities are also astounding as you can meet someone that you could work with, as well has have the opportunity to meet someone influential in your industry who has been specially invited to the dinner as a guest.
Woodlands Eatery
The other night I went to a “pizza loving”, “newbies” dinner at Woodlands Eatery. For just R160 we were treated to a delicious 3-course dinner.
For the starter I had a delicious roasted butternut salad with beetroot, creamy feta, sprouts, almonds and avo. It was enormous and had the perfect combo of flavours. Others at the table had crispy salt & pepper squid in a perfect, thin batter.
Next up I had a Classic Cheese Burger with blue cheese sauce, pickled red onion, dill cucumbers, onion rings and wedges. I asked for it to be rare and it arrived very well done (sad face), but the flavours were delicious. However, I was very jealous of the people who had the Chicken and Coriander Pesto pizza topped with walnuts and rocket. I should have known better as Woodlands are famed for their pizzas. It had a very thin base and a generous helping of the toppings. The Seafood Linguini with prawns, mussels and clams in a white wine broth looked divine, as did the Parma ham wrapped chicken on mushroom fettuccini.
For dessert I succumbed to the temptation of a Chocolate Fondant with vanilla ice cream, and I am so glad I did. It was PERFECT. Literally, PERFECT. That is all.
Although I am quite used to eating with strangers, and making chit-chat is nothing new to me – social dining is scary to some. But it is worth conquering the fear. So visit www.dinewithus.co.za and get offline, meet and eat.
