Bursary Spirits aims to take a portion of its profits and fund bursaries for talented individuals in South Africa’s hospitality industry.
A lot of alcohol producers offer training in return for something from their apprentice – exclusivity. I’m stripping that away because I believe that stunts an individual’s creative growth.
Rachel has, with the help of industry experts, created a new alcohol product: Smiths South African dry gin. Gin is becoming increasingly popular and we they created three delicious flavours to begin with; citrus, spiced and alda flower.
She believes that her brand is different because it has a purpose, noting that producers are struggling to connect with their consumers because they are solely profit driven. She aims to create products that are not only tasty, but constantly give back and she hopes this will resonate with her buyers and also grow the economy in the long run.
What you need to do to get involved in this South African first: visit Thundafund and pledge towards the first round of production, whereby a portion of those sales will go towards bursaries hopefully to be handed out in June/July this year.
