Breast Cancer Survivor supports other Disadvantaged Women

Rita Mphokwane breast cancer warrior and Reach for Recovery volunteer gives back to disadvantaged women in the same situation.

“Breast cancer can happen to anyone, young and old, so it’s best to get to know how to do your  breast self-examination from a young age,” insists Reach for Recovery volunteer Rita Mphokwane.

As a beneficiary of the Power of Pink campaign having received a silicone prosthesis herself after a mastectomy, she encourages everyone to buy fresh mushrooms in the pink punnets during October’s Breast Cancer month.

  • “All the money raised in this incredible campaign provides silicone prostheses to women who do not have the money to buy these for themselves,” says Rita. “My life changed once I fitted my breast prosthesis and I see  those life changing moments in the faces of every recipient I have the privilege to assist. I now am a volunteer with Reach for Recovery and work at the breast clinic because I can experience the joy of the lucky new recipients every day.  I am glad that I can be there to give them support and hope all the way.  My message to all women is that there is life after breast cancer!”

Each year, hundreds of disadvantaged women’s lives are changed for the better when they receive silicone breast prostheses from money raised in SAMFA’s annual Power of Pink campaign.

So not only do you improve your own health by eating good-for-you fresh mushrooms, you empower other women! So get to your nearest Pick n Pay and buy a life-saving pink punnet of mushrooms today!
