Nederburg in Paarl is ready for a sensational summer, with a range of flavourful offerings you’ll adore.
The Red Table restaurant, situated in Nederburg’s historic manor house, has just launched a fresh, new summer menu, crafted by their new head chef Lisa Cilliers.
Cilliers has previously worked at The Red Table as chef de partie, having held that position for three years before taking on an opportunity to work as sous chef at The Polo Club Restaurant at Val de Vie Estate. She is a chef that is knowledgeable on a broad spectrum of food styles yet is passionate about South African cuisine, during her studies at Boland College, she spent weekends learning about Cape Malay cuisine under the leadership of Cass Abrahams.
The Red Table’s new à la carte starters include a green bean, avocado and bocconcini baby leaf salad topped with poached egg, toasted almonds and light lemon dressing; smoked smoor snoek and cauliflower rice, lightly curried with sambals, green chutney and sweet potato crisps; and slaphakskeentjie tart tatin with chevin cream. Starters range in price from R65 to R95, with some offered as main course options.
The main course menu features new dishes such as pork belly with braised red cabbage and green apple with sweet potato croquettes; fresh fish of the day and chips with tartar sauce; biltong-crusted beef fillet with potatoes Boulangère, flashed garden vegetables and chimichurri sauce; and slow-braised springbok phyllo parcel with maize tabbouleh, toasted corn and red wine jus. Main course options cost between R120 and R215 per dish.
Delectable desserts are also available, including baked cheesecake with gooseberry compote; rich chocolate fondant with vanilla ice cream; Gewürztraminer-infused crème brȗlée; and milk tart with rooibos ice cream; and artisanal flavoured lollies. Pricing ranges between R25 and R85.
The new summer menu caters for children as well, with a selection of meals offered at between R55 and R60 per meal.
A short walk away from the historic manor house is the comfortable Visitors’ Centre. Here you can taste and purchase Nederburg’s delicious selection of wines, including some exclusively available from the farm in Paarl, such as the elegant The Winemasters Albarino 2018 that achieved a double gold medal at the 2018 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards.
Some of Nederburg’s luxurious Private Bin wines, made for exclusive sale at the annual Nederburg Auction, are now offered for sale at the Visitors’ Centre (while stock lasts). The selection features the following wines: Nederburg Private Bin R163 Cabernet Sauvignon 2003, Nederburg Private Bin R121 Shiraz 2011, Nederburg Private Bin R181 Merlot 2009 and Nederburg Private Bin Eminence 2012.
Cheese and wine, ice cream and wine, confectionary and sweet wine, and kids’ pairings, as well as snack boxes and cheese platters, are also available to enjoy at the Visitors’ Centre.
