Above the sophisticated fine dining restaurant Benguela on Main in Somerset West, resides The Taster, an exquisite tasting room and wine shop. Incorporating elegant, luxury décor, The Taster is home to Benguela Cove wines, an extensive selection of the finest local and international wines and spirits, and group Sommelier Denis Garret, who originates from France with extensive knowledge on champagne, cognac and wine. A variety of experiences are available at The Taster to enjoy the award-winning Benguela Cove wines. These include the chocolate and wine pairing, cheese and wine pairing or a tasting of any five wines.
Over and above this, exclusive Tutored Tastings have been incorporated providing an elite experience for those intrigued by alcoholic beverages such as whisky, champagne, wine and other spirits. The tastings have been broken down into classes which include a Whisky Master Class, a Champagne & MCC Master Class, a Spirit Master Class & Cocktail Experience and a Taste & Take-away Wines Experience.
Whisky Master Class
Taking a look into the history of Scottish whisky, Sommelier Denis Garret will reveal the production process and what to look out for in your glass. Five premium rare whiskies, in a range of styles showcasing the spirit’s diversity, will be available to taste at R350 per person. The next class will be on Saturday, 21 May 2016 at 16:30
Champagne & MCC Master Class
For those who adore champers, sommelier and specialist, Denis Garret will take patrons through five different styles of sparkling wines and discover the wonders of French Champagne and South African Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) at R450 per person. There is a class coming up on 11 June 2016 at 16:30.
Spirit Master Class & Cocktail Experience
Denis Garret, resident spirits expert, will once again guide patrons through an interactive afternoon and indulging in a different spirit each class. Five products will be tasted together with a demonstration on one classic cocktail incorporating the spirit, at the end of the class. At R350 per person, and starting at 16:30, the next class takes place on Saturday, 18 June for a Gin & Cocktail Experience
Taste & Take-away Wines
This tasting will be conducted by renowned winemaker Georgio Dalla Cia or his son George. Discover three older vintage Merlots from renowned wine estate, Meerlust and three wines from Dalla Cia, including their Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Teano. The next class at R450 per person is on Friday, 17 June at 16:30.
