Trams are a regular feature of movie scenes filmed in San Francisco, affording the audiences a glimpse of this classic mode of transport. Visitors can now head to L’Ormarins Estate and Anthonij Rupert Estate, situated in the breathtaking Franschhoek Wine Valley, to experience this mode of transport first hand.
Owner Johann Rupert’s vision of providing visitors with a unique and scenic way to travel between the two visitor facilities has been realised with the introduction of two specially built trams. The two facilities are the Franschhoek Motor Museum on L’Ormarins Estate and the two Tasting Rooms (Terra del Capo and Anthonij Rupert) situated on the adjacent farm, Anthonij Rupert Estate.
Using the traditional San Francisco trams as a guideline, these trams look like their genuine counterparts with the only difference being that these do not travel on tracks but rather on the road. The trams will travel in tandem between the locations, with each journey lasting approximately 30 minutes and will operate on a hop-on hop-off basis, ensuring visitors a relaxed and truly memorable experience as they travel through the vineyards. This system allows visitors a comfortable journey through the most scenic parts of the estate, with several special viewing spots to take photographs or simply admire the scenery. The large windows of the vehicle are specially designed to allow guests the opportunity to enjoy the splendid vistas of the Franschhoek Wine Valley, the beautiful vineyards of Anthonij Rupert Wyne as well as the majestic Groot Drakenstein Mountains.
There can be few better ways to experience two internationally recognised estates without having to drive yourself, and making a day of visiting the Franschhoek Motor Museum, tasting superb wines and then ending off the visit with a delicious lunch either under the olive trees or in the antipasto bar at the Terra del Capo Tasting Room.
