The Booze Ban

In an attempt to reduce alcohol consumption by 20% by 2020, the Control of Marketing of Alcohol Beverages Bill has been drafted and the first round of signatures of approval have been signed. This includes the ban on: alcohol advertising; on alcohol companies sponsoring sports events and teams; on alcohol promotions at events; and on brand names being displayed on delivery vehicles. There are many phases of approvals still to go, but if it does, our economy is going to take a hit as thousands of jobs will be lost.

Bye bye Junk food?

On that note, a Durban-based researcher has suggested the Advertising Standards Authority place a ban on junk food ads. Why? Because South Africans are getting fatter. He claims that while he agrees to freedom of choice on what we eat, we should be more careful on what is promoted.

Marmite Banned Ad

And on the topic of banning, the new Marmite ad in the UK has had hundreds of complaints and may be banned permanently. It is a parody ad about “Marmite Abuse”, where a team goes to houses to save the bottles and rehome them. Animal welfare activists find it in bad taste. Do you?
