Calexico Vinyl Lounge & Restaurant

An Americana-inspired restaurant and Vinyl Bar, Calexico offers a diverse menu in a unique space.

Situated in 44 Stanley Ave, Milpark, Calexico is a newly launched spot that prides itself on its quirky décor, vinyl wall and the exciting menu designed and created by consulting Chef Robyn Timson-Moss.

The name Calexico comes from the border city in California: a portmanteau of the words California and Mexico and a perfect intermingling of music genres, food and dance. The band of the same name is an Americana, Indie, country, folk and Latin rock band from Arizona. The music style is a blend of southern Californian and Mexican inspired sounds and has gained a reputation for consistently releasing high quality records. The inspiration hit the Calexico team when trawling through the names of great rock legends and flavorful food styles and genres.

The Calexico team and now resident chef Cecelia Hobyani ensures the quality of the ingredients is what makes the food on the menu special. The produce is fresh, seasonal and locally sourced. Many of the recipes are gluten free and there are many delicious options for vegetarians – mushroom skewers and hearty mac and cheese to name a few. Side dishes consist of corn, beer bread, pico de gallo and crunchy slaw. For the meat lovers, there are sticky free-range smoked ribs with homemade BBQ sauce (nothing bottled here!), rotisserie style chipotle chicken and flavourful free range burgers.

The menu includes a tasty selection of creative sandwiches like beer grilled cheddar on sourdough and pulled chicken on a trendy black bun. To end, the chocolate brownies and homemade apple pie with halva ice cream are winners. Food is designed to share with friends and family and the menu is designed with parties and special functions in mind. The venue is also available to book out for events.

Visit Calexico from Tuesday to Thursday between 10.30am to 10.30pm; Friday from 9.30am to 12am; Saturday from 9.30am to 10.30pm; and Sunday from 10am to 6.30pm.
