Celebrate World Gin Day with Flowstone Snuffbox Gin!

Flowstone’s Snuffbox Gin was developed as part of the collector’s edition range.

The snuffbox tree – Oncoba spinosa – gets its name from its hard-shelled fruit which, for thousands of years have been hollowed out to store snuff in.

The dark fruit itself has an intoxicatingly complex smell that includes notes of cacao, burnt caramel and dessert wine intertwined with warm almost fruity notes. This tree had been growing just meters from the distillery door for years and to be honest the fruit were just thrown over the fence because they damaged the lawn mower. This carried on until one day distillers, Mark and Glyn French, picked one up and smelled it. It’s dark, rich and warm flavours were crying out to be made into a gin.

One month later Flowstone Snuffbox gin was born going on to win a Double-Gold medal before it was even released.

Available in stylish gift boxes that include a pack of dried orange slices or as a single bottle, they make an ideal gift for the gin lover.

For World Gin Day on 12 June, try this delicious cocktail which has a classic white foam topping – and is easier than you think. The frothy texture on the surface of the drink adds a creamy rich flavour. It is tantalizing, sexy and yummy.

INGREDIANTS

  • 50ml Flowstone Snuffbox gin
  • 15ml Simple syrup
  • 15ml Lemon juice
  • 1 Egg white
  • Nutmeg, cocoa, or chocolate powder to garnish

METHOD

Put Flowstone Snuffbox gin, simple syrup, lemon juice and egg white into a shaker with no ice.  Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.  The better the shake the better the foam. Add ice and shake again for another 20 seconds to cool the drink. Pour carefully into a cocktail glass keeping the ice back. The foam will float to the top. Grate a light dusting of nutmeg over the foam. A light round of cocoa or chocolate powder and draw a knife through the round to make a perfect heart. Enjoy!
