The Brandy Sour cocktail is famous across the world, a beloved evening cocktail with royal origins!
The Brandy Sour dates back to the early fifties where King Farouk of Egypt, a cocktail enthusiast, would travel the world chasing the next best flavor. In his travels he stopped off on the island of Cyprus and fell in love, not just with the island but with the Cypriot brandy it produced as well.
Since sporting a drink as a royal was frowned upon, the king tasked the bartenders of a famous Troodos hotel to create an innocent looking iced tea style drink, so it wouldn’t be obvious he was enjoying an alcoholic beverage.
Today the Brandy Sour is a stable on the menu at all top cocktail bars across the globe. The addition of Angostura® aromatic bitters to the recipe added complexity to the taste and balanced the acidity of the citrus, elevating the cocktail to another level.
Ingredients
- 50 ml Brandy or Cognac
- 25 ml fresh lemon juice
- 15 ml Maraschino Cherry Syrup (from the jar)
- 4-6 dashes of Angostura® aromatic bitters
- ½ an egg white
- 1 Maraschino cherry
- 1 lemon slice
