It’s official. The Upper Bree Street Market Road Closure has been approved!
The City of Cape Town has approved the Station on Bree’s championing of an Upper Bree Street market and is, in fact, now also a sponsor and partner of the initiative aimed at responsibly breathing new life into the area this First Thursday 4 November 2021.
The First Thursday Upper Bree Street Market draws on Cape Town’s heritage as a place where locals and travelers would enjoy a beautiful day out in the Mother City.
It will be a safe space, adhering to all COVID-19 protocols to ensure a happy and healthy atmosphere that will entertain the whole family.
It has been very heartening to see our public spaces being increasingly occupied by events over the last month, an indication of an upward trend for the events and tourism sectors. As the City of Cape Town, we believe events will be central in revitalising the economy going forward. – says the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
“Our support for Upper Bree Street Market is part of a broader strategy to provide assistance to businesses still suffering the impact of the pandemic. It is also aimed at ensuring we can revitalise the CBD by providing residents with safe spaces where they can enjoy a good time with family and friends,” adds JP Smith.
The Station on Bree celebrates its fifth birthday of pairing the iconic design of the London Underground with the bustling and cosmopolitan atmosphere of Cape Town’s Bree Street.
“Our unique, multistoried venue has always guaranteed a great night out and our beautiful outside terrace is the perfect spot to take in the atmosphere of the Mother City. The Upper Bree Street Market has been a major success in the past and has introduced the Station on Bree to an entirely new audience. We cannot wait to responsibly bring life back into the city and lead the way in eventing while living through Covid19,” Neil Basel owner of The Station on Bree.
