A celebration of symphonic pop, jazz, rock and classics awaits the audience at this year’s Nederburg Picnic Pops concert on Saturday 21 November. The renowned South African rock star, Arno Carstens, will lead the pack as guest artist, and fans can look forward to the celebrated musician performing a selection of his own hit songs, backed by a full symphony orchestra.
The exciting line-up of top young artists joining him on stage includes jazz songstress Adelia Douw from Delft, acclaimed soprano Siphamandla Yakupa and tenor Lokhanyo Moyake from Cape Town, and choristers of the Boland Community Choir. All the soloists will be accompanied by the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra conducted by Brandon Phillips, resident conductor of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert will be compèred by vivacious media personality, Sue Pyler, currently a familiar voice on the Afrikaans radio station, RSG, and presenter of the TV show, Kollig.
The Nederburg Picnic Pops is an annual benefit concert showcasing highly talented professional and emerging artists who perform on local and international stages. The concert is presented by the Distell Foundation in association with Nederburg Wines. Says Irma Albers of the Distell Foundation, ‘We are extremely excited about this year’s Picnic Pops at Nederburg. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase and support amazingly talented young South African artists on the same stage with world class professional performers.’
With the stately Nederburg Manor House as back-drop to the show, friends and families are welcome to bring their own picnic to be enjoyed on the beautiful lawns of the wine farm’s park-like garden. Picnic hampers at R185 per person can be ordered and pre-paid at The Red Table Restaurant (Jeannine on 021 877 5155).
Please note, no alcoholic beverages will be allowed onto the premises, but selected Nederburg wines will be on sale at the venue.
The Nederburg Picnic Pops concert on Saturday 21 November starts at 18h00, with the gates opening at 16h00.
Tickets are R100 for adults and entry for children under 12 years is free, available at www.webtickets.co.za.
