This Saturday the 19th of September saw the world unite in what is known as World Cleanup Day.
A civic movement that unites 180 countries and millions of people across the world to “clean up the planet” In one day.
Volunteers and partners from around the world come together to rid our beautiful planet of litter by cleaning up the beaches, rivers, forests, and streets. The concept started in a small northern European country called Estonia in 2008, on this remarkable day 12 years ago, 50 000 people came together to clean up the entire country in just 5 hours.
This year Krispy Kreme South Africa partnered with GEM Projects and together the teams assisted the Sunshine Cleaning Team in Bluedowns where the volunteers picked up as much litter as possible and managed to collect 390 bags of waste.
While the team could not be everywhere, Krispy Kreme of course managed to share the joy nationwide, with a sponsorship of the iconic Original Glazed ® doughnuts at the 4 locations:
- Bluedowns
- Mitchells Plain
- Klipriversberg Nature Reserve
- Joburg Zoo
… leaving all locations a little bit sweeter.
