The brand-new hotel, which opened in Cape Town on 15 August 2019, harmoniously blends history and forward-thinking modern hotel trends to create a hospitality brand that combines the best of all worlds.
With only six luxury Signature suites and one penthouse with three bedrooms, its focus is on old-world elegance with the best of contemporary hotel living.
Hoteliers Jan Fourie and Johan du Plessis were inspired by the beautiful circa 1700s building when conceiving the look, feel and attitude of the hotel.
We’re thrilled with the way the hotel has turned out. The result is incredibly faithful to our original vision for this truly special heritage building, and we can’t wait for our first guests to experience the way in which we have recalibrated the scale of luxury! – says co-owner and hotel manager, Du Plessis.
High ceilings and wide open spaces help them achieve their goal, as well as the choice of finishes and furniture – Calcatta marble, French oak floors and Persian rugs, with modern and antique pieces, with each suite being decorated differently. The result is relaxed but not stuffy. Expect to see some contemporary art on the walls too. Their aim was to make it feel like home and it seems they’ve gotten it spot on.
The crowning glory is the palatial Governer’s Suite –a 300-square-metre, three-bedroom space spans two floors at the top of the hotel and features a floating staircase and private plunge pool situated on a wide balcony with spectacular views, a fully equipped kitchen, 10-person dining table and two lounge areas.
The hotel offers an in-house restaurant called Starlings which serves all-day breakfast from an organic and ethically inspired menu, as well as a dedicated perfumery boutique on site that carries prestigious international brands such as Diptyque, Penhaligon’s, Dr Vranjes, L’Artisan Parfumeur and Comme des Garçons.
Venture out to the city’s various cocktail bars and culinary hotspots, the V&A Waterfront or beautiful Blue Flag beaches.
