Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel’s Oasis Bistro has re-opened for summer.
The restaurant, with its contemporary al fresco flair, offers an extensive Mediterranean-inspired buffet as well as an à la carte menu with grilled meats, roasted line fish and daily specials harvested from local markets.
The fresh and colourful buffet includes a wide range of seasonal salads and meze; home cured and home smoked charcuterie; a seafood station with Saldanha Bay oysters, mussels, peri peri prawns, sushi and Cape Malay pickled fish; a poke bowl station offering marinated salmon and tuna; and a selection of South African cheeses.
The sauces, tapenades and pates are all made in-house, and the exceptional breads are baked in the hotel kitchens with enticing options such as sourdough, gluten free and other unusual grains.
The selection of hot dishes changes daily and could include anything from slow roasted lamb shank with assorted baby root vegetables to braised oxtail with avocado. The Curry of the Day might be an aromatic Cape Malay chicken curry or a hearty beef curry. There is a season line-fish option every day and vegetarians will delight in creative dishes such as butternut and cheese bake or red lentil falafels.
To finish off: expect tempting treats such as red velvet cake, our legendary cheesecake, tiramisu, panna cotta and crème brûlée as well as sliced fresh fruits.
Sunday lunches are even more impressive with the addition of a carvery station serving roast beef sirloin, leg of lamb, Beef Wellington, as well as a magnificent selection of vegetable dishes, Yorkshire pudding, crisp roasted potatoes, honey glazed carrots and Madagascan pepper sauce.
The much-loved Alvin Dyers Cape Jazz Duo will be there too, playing easy-listening South African jazz classics.
Chef Llewellyn Hurter, who will be running Oasis Bistro on a daily basis, describes his style as passionate, colourful and flavourful. This, together with the Bistro’s relaxed atmosphere, inviting terrace and a well-thought out wine and cocktail list, lends itself perfectly to a warm and welcoming sunny bite.
P.S.: Saturday lunches has a local twist with a gourmet BBQ and buffet every Saturday, a must do event for the whole family!
