Some Say Shiraz, We Say Syrah
Red wine lovers are often confused by the difference between shiraz vs syrah. The fact of the matter is, they’re both made from the same grapes, it’s simply the style of wine and winemaking that differs.
While the “New World” character of shiraz is associated with jammy fruit flavours and high alcohol, the traditionalist “Old World” style of syrah, which thrives in Benguela Cove’s cool-climate Walker Bay vineyards, reflects the more elegant, peppery and floral wines that shiraz can produce.
What You Can Expect
While the cool winter carries the ocean breeze over the estate, we are still in need of some warming up before welcoming the fresher notes of spring. Known for its spicier, warmer tones we hope to chip away at the last edge of winter with this sought-after pairing.
Enjoy a unique opportunity to experience our range of Syrah wines, hosted by our very own Winemaker, Johann Fourie. He will take you through the journey of Syrah, exploring the exuberant flavours of the dishes prepared by Chef Annie Badenhorst through four courses, perfectly paired with the powerful notes of this enticing grape varietal.
This unique lunch and pairing experience will give you the first taste of the yet to be released; Vinography Syrah, a chance to purchase your favourite wines at cellar door prices and the opportunity to expand your pairing palate.
