It seems appropriate that the running of the World Sports Betting Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth Racecourse on 3 December has been labelled as Ladies Day.
The 1600m Group One contest worth R1-million, which marks the start of the Triple Tiara, will also serve as the Racing. It’s A Rush opening to the Summer of Champions as Cape Town prepares itself to be dazzled throughout the summer by a number of high-profile events, supplemented by the appearances of South Africa’s best thoroughbred talent.
Other highlights on the card include the running of the WSB Cape Merchants (Gr 2) and the WSB Green Point Stakes (Gr 2).
The Summer of Champions includes a number of marquee race-days such as the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate and the Sun Met, celebrated with GH Mumm and culminates at the end of January.
As part of the Ladies Day initiative, Lymphoma SA, through their association with Campaign For Cancer, has been earmarked as a beneficiary for this event and will be able to raise much-needed funds. Those monies will be raised through the auctioning of Second Chance, by Twice Over, and was kindly sponsored by Klawervlei Stud while Glen Kotzen has generously offered to sponsor the horse’s racing career.
The first horse auctioned off for charity at the 2013 Ladies Day, Zubbadubbadoo has enjoyed a successful career so far, racking up five victories for the Flaming Flamingo Syndicate of which Lymphoma SA founder, Melanie Texiera is a member.
“Little did I know that in 2013 when The Flaming Flamingo Syndicate was formed that I would meet a wonderful group of ladies. A group of ladies who would play a supportive role in my life when I was diagnosed with Lymphoma in 2015. The day is designed for all women in celebration of life and includes the element of fun with a purpose, encouraging participants to demonstrate their support at this fundraiser with a difference. – Texeira of her involvement in the event.
Those looking to be part of the Ladies Day offering can do so at R4500 for a table of 10 and this includes a welcome drink, three course meal, fashion show and prize giveaways on the day. This area is exclusively for women with gentlemen allowed to join the party from 4pm.
The alternative is to take in the action from the Somerset Room where a buffet lunch is offered at R275 per person.
The day will also offer kid’s entertainment as well as a food village for those with discerning tastes. There will also be craft beer on tap. The event will also see the conclusion of the Dekro Paints ‘Revamp Your House’ competition where a R15 000 voucher is offered to one lucky winner who attends. They also need to have attended the Dekro Paints Raceday on 26 November to qualify.
