Tiger’s Milk in Muizenberg will host the third edition of the popular multi-discipline Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic from 9-11 June 2017.
Over 150 Longboarders, Shortboarders and Stand Up Paddlers (SUP) are expected to compete in the unique event, which is presented by Surfing South Africa (SSA) in association with the World Surf League.
World Surf League Longboard speciality event for Men and Women will take place for the second year in a row, at the Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic. With R80,000 total prize money on offer, it makes it one of the premier events on the annual Surfing South Africa calendar. Prizes also include a long board from African surf brand Mami Wata as well as Mami Wata apparel.
SSA Outreach Initiative
While the Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic showcases the skills of many of South Africa’s top Long boarders, Surfers and Stand Up Paddlers, it will also support a SSA Outreach initiative, sponsored by Tiger’s Milk, who will also provide refreshments for the kids.
The programme takes place from 9am to 1pm on Sunday, June 11th, and will involve about 60 young surfers from various community-based outreach programmes. The main objective is to give surfers from disadvantaged communities the opportunity to participate in a surfing contest, and enjoy the day.
The Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic will be run from inside the Tiger’s Milk restaurant, which overlooks the contest arena and from this vantage point officials and spectators will have the best view of the action in the water. Prizegiving will take place on Sunday 11 June, at the restaurant, where the category winners will be announced. A festive environment with live music will end off a weekend in celebration.
Entries for the 2017 Tiger’s Milk Winter Classic are now open and can be completed online on Surfing South Africa website www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za.
