Stellenzicht is situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain between Stellenbosch and the Atlantic Ocean, in the prime wine-growing area known locally as the Golden Triangle and since 1996 Stellenzicht boasts a reputation as one of the top farms in the Cape wine industry.
While Stellenzicht has its origins in the historic farm of Rustenburg, first granted in 1692, strangely shaped rocks uncovered on the site as land was prepared speak of an even older tale. These rocks were later determined to be Acheulean hand-axes, ancient pear-shaped stone tools named after the French region where they were first discovered.
It was a lightbulb moment. We realised these rocks that still characterise the site were the essence of Stellenzicht.
The story of Stellenzhicht wines is the story of the land. It is the most authentic story that can be told that has in fact, written itself. – says winemaker L’Ré Burger, who joined the property in 2017.
With the wine estate re-branding in April 2021, there are many exciting things to come from one of the most loved brand in the Cape Winelands. Dedicated to a sustainable future, they have adopted the dragonfly as an emblem of balance and sensitivity.
The new Stellenzicht wine portfolio today comprises of:
- The Acheulean range of super-premium and limited quantity wines;
- A trio of single variety wines: the Arenite Syrah, Tristone Cabernet Sauvignon and Silcrete Cinsault; and,
- The Thunderstone lifestyle range, currently housing a red blend and a Chardonnay.
