Discover the Exquisite Flavors of Boekenhoutskloof’s 2020 Vintage Wines

Boekenhoutskloof, one of South Africa’s most renowned wine producers, has recently released its 2020 vintage selection, featuring an impressive assortment of red and white wines.

This year’s release includes Syrah, Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, and Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which have received favourable reviews from respected wine critics.

Boekenhoutskloof’s Syrah is made with 80% grapes from Porseleinberg and 20% from Goldmine, and is fermented with 40% whole bunches. The wine is described as subtle, scented, and almost delicate, with filigree tannins, rose petal top notes, and a hint of oak. Wine critic Tim Atkin MW gave it an impressive score of 97 points, while James Suckling rated it 94 points.

The Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from four vineyards in Faure and on the Helderberg, and includes 4% Cabernet Franc. It is described as powerful, structured, and intense, with classic black cherry and blackcurrant fruit, vanilla-scented 65% new wood, and natural acidity that freshens the finish. Tim Atkin MW rated it 95 points, while James Suckling rated it 93 points.

Boekenhoutskloof’s Semillon is made with grapes from three old parcels, including the largest component from the legendary La Colline vineyard. Fermented in two-thirds new wood, with the rest seeing concrete eggs and amphoras, this wine is described as one of the greatest ever Cape whites, with stony, flinty, and layered flavors, wax, lemongrass, nutmeg, and subtle struck match reduction. It was awarded an exceptional 99 points by Tim Atkin MW and 5 stars by Platter’s Wine Guide, which is limited to 6 bottles per customer.

Finally, Boekenhoutskloof’s Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon is made with 14% Cabernet Franc, which is a higher amount than usual. It is described as the more European of Boekenhoutskloof’s two releases, with tarragon and graphite aromas, fine-grained tannins, red pepper, green herb, and blackcurrant flavors, and a fresh, acid-driven finish. It was rated 94 points by both Tim Atkin MW and James Suckling.

The Boekenhoutskloof 2020 vintage release offers a diverse range of wines that showcases the winery’s ability to produce exceptional quality wines across a variety of varietals. With the favourable reviews and limited availability, it is recommended that wine enthusiasts act quickly to secure their preferred bottles of this impressive release.
