If your idea of a perfect Saturday involves swirling fine wine, learning a thing or two from the experts, and tasting vintages rarer than a Cape Town snowstorm, clear your calendar for Saturday, 26 April 2025.
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in Hermanus is hosting Vinography: an Exclusive Guided Wine Tasting Journey—and it’s as fancy and fun as it sounds.
This isn’t your average swirl-and-sip.
- It’s a 90-minute guided wine adventure (from 12:00 to 13:30) led by Benguela Cove’s very own Senior Wine Ambassador, Sam Lombaard. Think of it as a backstage pass to the winery’s secrets, with a glass in hand.
The experience kicks off with a bubbly welcome, courtesy of their elegant Cap Classique—because nothing says “you’re in for a treat” quite like local sparkling wine. From there, guests will be taken behind the scenes for an exclusive cellar tour, getting a close-up look at the craftsmanship that goes into every bottle of Benguela Cove wine.
Then, the real magic happens in the Barrel Room. Here’s where things get deliciously serious:
-
A pour of the Catalina Sémillon 2022
-
Two limited-production Vinography whites
-
Two Vinography reds that are as bold as they are rare
Each wine is served in a curated 35ml tasting, just enough to savour and appreciate, without getting too swirly before lunch. And for those who fall in love with what they taste (which, let’s be honest, is inevitable), there’s a rare chance to buy bottles from Benguela Cove’s library stock—wines that rarely see the light of day, let alone a retail shelf.
Tickets are R450 per person, and they’re expected to go faster than a glass of good red at a family braai. So if you’re looking for a reason to escape the city, sip something extraordinary, and come away with a newfound respect for fine wine, this is it.
