Queens, where Cape Town’s vibrant nightlife meets luxury – this Wednesday, 29 January 2025 at 7pm, their jazz stage comes alive with the soulful sounds of Nick Ford.
A bassist, composer, and producer, whose unique blend of musical influences is setting Cape Town’s jazz scene ablaze.
A passionate musician from an early age, Nick started with piano and percussion before discovering his true calling on the bass.
- He has graced the stage alongside some of South Africa’s most celebrated artists, including Afrika Mkhize, Bokani Dyer, Mark Fransman, Linda Sikhakhane, Ayanda Sikade, Darren English, and Sibusiso “Mash” Mashiloane.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Nick is about to drop his much-anticipated debut album, Terra Solus, set for release on 31 January 2025. With eight original compositions, Terra Solus is a conceptual masterpiece that explores themes of time, continuity, nature, and humanity’s deep connection to the world.
On the album, Nick is joined by an incredible ensemble of Cape Town’s finest musicians, including Justin Bellairs (alto sax), head of saxophone at the South African College of Music, and Jayden Harebottle (tenor sax), a rising star in South African jazz. The rhythm section is equally stellar, featuring Dylan Fine on guitar, Brathew van Schalkwyk on piano, and Langa Dubazana on drums and percussion, with Nick himself on both electric and upright bass.
