The Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown, Johannesburg is planning a sumptuous braai menu for Father’s Day on Sunday 15 June, “because that’s what dad’s like!” So says General Manager Chris Schutte, who is himself a father of three young children.
“Father’s Day is all about spending time with the family and eating your favourite food,” says Schutte. “We’re a proudly South African hotel, and this is a great way to celebrate the occasion because dad won’t be doing all the work on the braai, and mom won’t be doing all the work in the kitchen!”
The buffet style menu was dreamed up by new head chef Doctor Hlongwane, who is also a father and will be braaing for the guests. He has planned a feast of freshly made salads, patés and cold meat cuts, soup with various homemade breads, and side dishes including jacket potatoes with sour cream and rocket pesto, and grilled mielies on the cob to accompany braaied lamb chops, fish, sirloin, chicken and pork cutlets and, of course, boerewors!
If dad has a sweet tooth, he’ll be able to indulge a vast array of desserts, including lime pies, chocolate brownies, cheese cakes, and lamingtons and fruit salad. Or he can end his meal with a cheese platter. The Father’s Day lunch will be served on the outdoor deck (weather permitting), and includes a surprise gift for dad. There’ll be a jumping castle in the garden for kiddies.
The cost is R225 for adults and R120 for children under 12. Booking is essential. To book call 011 640 0400 or email sunnyBQT@legacyhotels.co.za.
