Last year, we spend a couple of days in the Kruger National Park chasing after the BIG FIVE. After several game drives and much success, we were heading back to Cape Town and needed a place to stay before catching a flight the following morning. Radisson Blu were kind enough to invite us over to enjoy a stay in one of their modern business rooms.
Stay
The Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton is located centrally, in Johannesburg’s upscale business district and is only a couple of minutes away from the Gautrain Station. You won’t even need to call an Uber unless you are carrying lots of bags. The convenience is key as it makes travelling to OR Tambo that much easier.
The hotel has a total of 290 hotel rooms and suites that all offer free high-speed wifi to ensure you are connected to the world at all times. Entering our business room, I immediately spotted a fully stocked mini bar as well as a Nespresso coffee machine in case you have a long night of work in front of you – to stay awake or drown your sorrows. Gowns and slippers were presented neatly in the bedroom. An in-room safe will keep all your belongings secure.
The bathroom was super nice as well. At first we didn’t understand why there was such a large window looking out onto the bedroom, but in the end we did figure it out. Keep the curtains in the bedroom open and you have wonderful view of the city-scape of Sandton while enjoying in a warm bubble bath. Put on some chilled music and you’ve got a wonderful tranquil setting that was much needed after a holiday in the bush.
Dinner
After settling in and enjoying the comfortable bed, we got ready and headed to Vivace. It’s quite a big restaurant with an open-kitchen that serves modern contemporary cuisine. They are open every day for lunch & dinner until 22h30.
We started our meal with two soups. The first was the Soup of the Day which was a creamy basil soup which had a very nice tanginess to it. My favourite though was the roasted plum and tomato soup. Adding a dose of black pepper brought out a burst of flavours that allowed the soup to shine.
For our main meals, first up was the pork belly. It was a bit too long over the fire for liking as it was quite dry. The apple mix gave the dish much needed freshness. It was served with potato and vegetables.
But to the rescue comes our dish of the day. A wonderful piece of meat served with asparagus and cous cous on the side was as juicy as it was delicious. The rump steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and packed a lot of flavour. The vegetables on the side allowed for a nice contrast of textures when enjoying this meal. Looking back at the image below, it tasted as delicious as it looks. Divine!
P.S.: Radisson Blu Sandton also a sundeck where you can enjoy a wonderful light meal with great views of the surrounding area.
Breakfast
As we made our way back to Vivace in the morning, the open-plan kitchen was showcasing a wonderful and fresh breakfast buffet offering with everything you may desire. Cold meats, cheeses, fruits, yoghurt and cereal. Breads, rolls and croissants. An egg station with a range of hot ingredients to perfect the art of English Breakfast. And so much more. It was simply delicious and the perfect end to a beautiful stay at the Radisson Blu Sandton.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Radisson Blu Sandton. With the free wi-fi, a business lounge, gym facilities, and a great restaurant, it’s the perfect hotel for a quick business trip or even travellers like us who needed a place to stay that was close to the Gautrain or airport.
