It’s not every day that a new restaurant opens up and instantly feels as though it’s an established icon. Yet Quaglino’s has achieved just that. Perhaps this is because of its prime location on the popular Mouille Point promenade, its stylish yet approachable décor, or its fresh and well priced take on quality dining. Or perhaps its secret lies in the flawless combination of all three.
The same team responsible for Cape Town’s darlings HQ, Caveau and Sotano, has channelled their significant experience into the creation of this new all-day dining experience. The space itself is an understated showcase of excellence, combining raw textures that imply simplicity and key statement pieces that add a hint of opulence.
The atmosphere and energy is distinctly cosmopolitan without being elitist and it’s a space that appeals to moms with prams in need of a caffeine shot, entrepreneurs having a quick meeting, and aficionados who appreciate a good meal. Which brings us to the heart of the magnificent Quaglino’s experience: the food. The menu moves away from the traditional three-course offering and is designed to allow guests to curate their own menu depending on their mood. Dishes include a selection of smaller sharing dishes and larger sized dishes, for those looking for something a little more substantial. The artisan-styled menu is rotated often and themed to suit the seasons.
To accompany the food, Quaglino’s offers a well curated wine and cocktail list, which pays homage to the Caveau Group’s signature standard of cellar offerings.
