Mel the Storyteller better known as ‘Mel die Storieverteller’, will perform her sold-out show ‘Almal is Mal’ at Tiger’s Milk Somerset West on 17 November.
This will act as the build-up to the launch of their Open-Mic Night Series starting on 29 November 2023 which will also be hosted by Mel.
Here she will give guidance and tips on how to grow within the stand-up comedian space in South Africa, as she has done in a 20-year career as a performing artist.
- Mel die Storieverteller is an Afrikaans South African social media personality and writer who is well known for her comical TikTok videos and witty sayings. With over 270,000 followers, Mel wrote her first comedic one-woman show, “Almal is Mal!” which sold out, twice, at one of the best theatres in South Africa, The Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria. Now you can experience Mel, in action, on 17 November.
The show will start at 19:30 pm, with doors opening at 5 pm for dinner and drinks service. Tickets are R100 per person and group bookings are encouraged.
“We are incredibly excited to host our first ever One Women Show with Mel die Storieverteller. She’s been a friend of Life & Brand for a long time and we simply cannot wait to host her at Tiger’s Milk Somerset West. It’s also incredibly important for us to connect, engage, and grow alongside our community, and therefore, wanted to create a platform for fellow up-and-coming comedians to have a space and professional guidance from one of South Africa’s best-performing artists. We cannot wait to see the entrants’ performances at the Open-Mic-Night event on 29 November.” says Head of Marketing for Life & Brand Portfolio, Jolene Strydom.
Mel is incredibly excited to see up-and-coming talent perform. “I will be looking at crowd interaction, interesting points of view on relatable topics, and authenticity. Mostly, I look forward to hearing the jokes and the stories – I will be there to laugh and will probably do that a lot,” says Mel. She encourages performers to “not memorise all your words like a robot, know what you’re going to say and then let those words flow.” When asked what she’s most excited to see, she said, “I‘m looking forward to seeing more female comedians on stage!”
